The Huayhuash Cordlillera, as seen from the International Space Station. This short (25 kilometer) mountain range boasts 20 prominent peaks, six higher than 6,000 meters (19,500 feet). The Huayhuash (pronounced "Whywash") trek circumnavigates the range and takes about 12 days. Our July 2008 trek started at the far left, proceeding clockwise. The following images appear in chronological order. (Locate on Google Maps.) Recommended trekking company: Skyline Adventure School.
